What Are Kratom Extracts?
Kratom comes from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree. A kratom extract is a concentrated form of that leaf, in which the plant's naturally occurring alkaloids — chiefly mitragynine — are concentrated from raw leaf into a more potent powder, tablet, or liquid.
You'll see terms like full-spectrum extract (which aims to preserve the leaf's broader alkaloid profile) and standardized percentages that describe concentration. Because extracts are far more potent than plain leaf, they are the focus of most new regulation — and the reason lab testing and clear labeling matter so much.

Potency & Lab Testing — Why It Matters
With concentrated products, transparency is everything. A trustworthy product should have a current certificate of analysis (COA) with a lot or batch number you can match to what you're holding — showing alkaloid content and screening for heavy metals, microbials, and other contaminants.

The rules around concentrated and novel kratom products are moving quickly. 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) — a minor kratom alkaloid that is highly concentrated in some newer products — has drawn major federal attention, and in 2025 the FDA recommended it be scheduled. A growing number of states now restrict or ban high-potency, novel, and semi-synthetic kratom products.
